2:12 pm - General Post/Request
from_a_ghost It's about time for a resurrection. At least a little one. I think it's just going to be accepted that this game will be off and on.

Is anyone still interested in staying in the game?

And if so, is anyone interested in having their character kidnapped? Looking for a new victim. Female, age 13-21. Let me know in a comment here.

2:05 am - Aftermath.

The game is not dead. There are only a few players, and two of them (me and my co-mod) have been taking a couple weeks' vacation.

It's been a rough week for me, but I'll have character posts up here soon, as well as over at in_0ther_thirds. I swear.

I'm also working for yet another ad for the game. I'll post a proto here once I find a picture I like.

12:33 am - Pansy Parkinson.

Poll #367934 Pansy Question

Which Pansy should I use?

I am pretty sure dark hair is just a movie thing, and that her hair color has never been mentioned in the books. Pansy has been blonde in Aftermath for about ever, and that won't change. The first has the better expression, but the second has a more pushed in, "pug"-ish face. But the first is less inherently attractive, and I love it when characters aren't all that attractive.

Here are more icons of the first:

The second would only have one other:

Something else to consider, Pansy is related to her siblings:

11:36 pm - Characters

Here is a list of some Characters you might be interested in taking in Aftermath, as well as characters currently in the game. Do not feel limited to these -- if you can come up with a character from the Lexicon or elsewhere that you would really like to play, go ahead and pitch them. These are just all I'm going to list for right now. More names will be added and crossed off as necessary. Let me know if I've made any mistakes.Collapse )

2:02 pm - On Playing Parties... Big Events, etc.

Hello! As most of you know, I've been trying to get the ball rolling on Cinderella!Draco (and just in case I link this game to any new people who might be considering joining -- we are not actually turning Draco into Cinderella... I'm just trying to be clever, please do not run away). Essentially, there may be a few snags. Sure, there are big gaping holes in our Taken Characters list, but that isn't most of it. There's also the fact that we have about 4 1/2 players in the game (ahem, Raechel) and two of us play far too many of the untaken characters. I'm worried about keeping the colored text straight in a chat. I'm worried about finding time to play the party scene in a chatroom where we can all be there, what with very full rpg plates already, and different schedules. So, what should we do? What do you guys think? Here are our options as I can come up with in the ten minutes before I run to Yoga:

We can just forge ahead. At some point there's bound to be a time when we can all be pulled into a chat, and surely the characters can sort themselves out from there. There was a bit of confusion at Hermione's picnic, and the scene got dropped without really getting finished, but it still worked out okay, didn't it? It might take us a while to play the whole scene though, over several meetings. Side stuff can probably be played through IM, and then there can be log-posting or log-swapping so that people know where everyone is. It might be a little scattered but it is doable.

We can forge ahead with some alterations. I can put up a description of the party as though it were a setting/location here, setting up the characters I've established in my head for this scenario, and then when people are online they can play as they want. Starting chats when we can. We are a small group, so it shouldn't be difficult. Again, there'd be posting of logs so that people know where everyone is.

We can add the 3rd person rp aspect to the game. As much as I hate clutter and complication. I'm unfamiliar with it still and find it a touch awkward, but there are some undeniable benefits I'm seeing to it. Gwyn would be able to make a few scene contributions from work, sometimes, for instance. People can move the scene forward matter who else is online. It would mean a shitload of new LJs, though, and possibly a new community. I may also have to try recruiting new people into the game to take unplayed characters (and you all know how bad I am at recruiting). The bulk of the work would be placed on me, I think. I've a light load this semester and am willing to do it, though, if we want to try. The scene might still take forever, but that's liable to happen anyway. It'd be easier to keep everyone straight. Certain main/bulk things can be established, and then pairings or private conversations can be taken to IM, maybe.

I am running late to class so I'll leave it up to you guys. What do you think? What do you suggest?

7:39 pm - Kyan Seabhac Character Introduction

Name: That should be ovbious (See Subject)
Age: Undisclosed

Kyan Seabhac is a middle-class pureblooded wizard of Irish descent. He does not play favourites and is equally harsh with all students of all houses. His sense of humour is very dry and may appear nonexistant to the untrained eye. All students are expected to meet standars, and there is no credit given for effort. At times he may seem cruel, but he is never unjust.

Kyan attended Hogarts in the late seventies and early eighties as a Ravenclaw. Not one to be easily impressed ideas so juvenille as house loyalty, he isolated himself from his house mates, refusing to become involved in petty rivalries and interhouse politics. The indefference lasted him throughout his entire life. In the course of the war, he refused to take sides. He agreed with neither, and therefore chose to support neither. Being very anyalitical and cynical, he found flaws in both sides that caused him to be wary of both 'causes.'

Professor Seabhac will be taking on the position of Professor of Transfiguration at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry until such time as he becomes incapable of fulfilling his duty in any way, shape or form.

Other information about Kyan that students need not know, but their players might enjoy:He is an vulpine animagus
His father died six years ago
His mother currently lives in Italy where the climate is better for her arthritis
Before taking his position at the school, he broke up with his boyfriend of three years

7:47 pm - Character Introduction: Daphne Greengrass

Name: Daphne Greengrass
Age: 19
Alumnus of Slytherin House
Appearance: 5'6", about 110 lbs, dark hair, hazel eyes.

Daphne is a pureblood witch, of a rather low to middle-income class family. Very close interbreeding unwittingly allowed hemophilia to enter her bloodline. Her mother is a carrier of the disease, and her father died of it. Daphne became one of the rare females who contracted the disorder because of this. Though her case is one of the milder forms, Daphne is very paranoid about injuring herself. She did not participate in flying lessons, for instance. Nor does she spend much time out of doors, engaging in activities which she believes may cause internal bleeding (and, in her mind, impending death). While spending time in the infirmary at school, or in her home, Daphne was able to come up with countless elaborate ways that she might die. She has a rather morbid fixation with it. She is not, however, entirely doom and gloom. She enjoys making clothes (though if she pricks herself with a needle she is liable to take to her bed for the rest of the day, out of paranoia) and she often fashions her own jewelry. She has a fascination with gemstones. Not necessarily for their intrinsic value or magical properties, but mostly because she finds them to be pretty.

Daphne, perhaps because of her morbid paranoias, has a flair for the dramatic. She loves gossip. She loves theater. She loves stories and performances. She is currently working on an internship at the broadcast station for the Wizarding Wireless Network in Edinburgh.

11:22 am - Getting things in order.

Current Players:

Are Joel and Raechel still in the game at all?

Currently Made Available Characters:
thronelessking (Lucius Malfoy) is now open.
oneiromantic (Sybill Trelawney) is now open.
breakingbabylon (Susan Bones) is now open.
notawhippingboy (Gregory Goyle) is now open.

I guess I'll be taking Harry (disenchanted_me), as no one else seems to be biting.

We need a new Transfigurations Professor. This is a good chance for an original character to be accepted into the game (though my stance on OCs still stands). Please send character pitch to andinotherwords@yahoo.com if no one's online, or just IM me. I'd love to see new people join the game but that doesn't look like it's going to happen... I have put some advertisements out, however. So we can hope!

4:10 am - The Forbidden Forest

This forest, partially housed on the grounds of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is one of the most ancient in all of England. And like so many magical sites, it seems to be a good deal larger on the inside, once within the trees, than it is without. There are a good many points in the forest where the trees seem to go on forever. It defies conventional mapping, and instead one must be familiar with its byways and trails to be able to navigate it sucessfully, though there is always the chance of getting thrown or gently meandering off course.

The forest is home to a good many of the sentient inhuman species in England: centaurs, vampires, werewolves, nixies, dryads, faeries of all stripes, hags, phookas, and others. Many of the creatures here are more feral than one would find in the towns: most of the vampires and werewolves that roam the depths have gone somewhat mad, and live something like animals, consumed with bloodlust. Others have far more complex societies here than elsewhere; the centaurs are a good example of this. And of course, hundreds of non-sentient creatures, of varying levels of dangerousness, roam the depths. Some ghosts make their home here, too. No known human settlement exists within the forest, however.

There are also any number of rare and magical plants that grow in the forest; some in open clearings, needing the sun, others in among the roots of trees or the undersides of branches. Some of the flora here can only be seen at certain times, and others bloom at very specific intervals, or cannot be harvested without special tools or knowledge. Several professors at Hogwarts utilize the forest for this purpose, and are somewhat familiar with it, though no one is an expert. Hagrid was likely the most knowledgeable, but he wrote nothing down, and so what he knew was lost when he died.

Overall, the most important thing to remember about the Forbidden Forest is that it is unpredictable and dangerous. Students are disallowed from wandering there alone for a very good reason, and some of those who have flouted this rule have died or been lost.

10:21 pm - Newly Freed Characters.

We are currently in need of a new Lucius Malfoy, a new Harry Potter, a new Susan Bones, a new Gregory Goyle, a new Sybill Trelawney, a new Parvati Patil, a new Kevin Entwhistle, and a new Graham Dunstan (established OC). Contact me here for details on any of these characters.

Also: Hogwarts will be in need of a new Transfigurations teacher come next term. Will wonders never cease? In fact, most of the faculty needs an overhaul, soon.

10:05 pm - Locations. (Policy and Hogwarts)

In brainstorming for another, original RPG I might make in the future, I realized that it might be important to have a list of location and location descriptions up on the hub. This is pretty standard fare, actually, for RPGs, and I can't believe I've neglected until now.

If you would like to describe a particular location, you can put that description up here as well, through any character or through the ghost journal which you all have access to.

For instance one of the more obvious locations in this game is Hogwarts, the description of which might look like the following:

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Located in the North of Scotland and hidden by Muggles through probably quite a lot of various spells and wards. It appears to them to be uninteresting ruins, but is in actuality a castle of your typical castle variety -- i.e. very large, made of stone, and surrounded by a lake and forest areas. What is atypical about Hogwarts is of course the magic it is infested with. Its many stairways like to shift, rooms appear and disappear seemingly at their own will, paintings have lives of their own, the suits of armor that occasionally deck any of the many halls might laugh at you, and there is no end to the amount of magical mysteries inside. No one alive today knows all of Hogwart's secrets, though most of the school grounds have been mapped out by Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, the late James Potter, and the now-almost-equally late Sirius Black. Hogwarts and its grounds are full of living things. Ghosts, a squid in the lake, house-elves, at least one poltergeist, any amount of magical creatures and pests, etc. Throughout at least most of the year, it also houses human (and nonhuman, semi-human and quasi-human) staff and students. The Headmistress of the school is, of course, McGonagall (headmistress), but she doesn't have control over everything. Nor is she aware of all of the goings-on in Hogwarts.

There. See how that works? Now if anyone wants to play something in Hogwarts they have more of an idea of what they're doing. Someone else can tackle The Forbidden Forest.

There are also Fleur and Gabrielle Delacour, and assorted other Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students.

The Older Generation
Professors: Binns, Sprout, Madam Hooch, Madam Pomfrey... Oi, I'm tired.

There are a lot of names you can find. Scroll through the lexicon if you want to play an older character. (Here.) Just be sure that the character you choose is not dead (reminder: both Hagrid and Sirius are dead in our game, sorry. And Dumbledore, but that was a given).

Completely original characters are allowed, as well. Just pitch them to either me (AIM: TwilightSpeaks) or gwynbones (AIM: Gwynbones). I'm always the more nitpicky one, so if it passes my inspection, it'll probably pass Gwyn's. Meaning you'll have better luck if you come to me first. ;-)

2:43 pm - Change of Bills.

I've updated the Bill image. The original: was a little too dark (auburn, not red, even after photoshop enhancement) and while I thought he was cool, he might not look that at home at a rock concert. :-(

The new one would probably fit the canon stereotype better:

If anyone prefers the original to the new Bill, please let me know here.

In Aftermath, you are always allowed to change your character's appearance in favor of canon. Even after you've grown attached to your original icons.

4:45 pm - Ginevra Weasley

Ginny never lets anyone know her first name (she hates it). She's 17, about to leave Hogwarts for good, forever, for ... well, for her parents' house, really. But hopefully not for too long! She has gone through career choices almosts as often as she's gone through boyfriends. She wanted to work in a magical creatures care shelter, she wanted to play professional quidditch (something none of her brothers has accomplished to date!), she wanted to do work with muggle relations, she wanted to breed thestrals, she wanted to open her own bookstore ... etc. Most recently she wanted to be a healer, and she's been on that path for the last two years. Despite doing pretty well in her classes, she's not so sure she wants to apprentice for up to five years before she touches her first patient, and is casting soulful looks back at Quidditch. After all, she's been Captain of the Gryffindor quidditch team for a year or two now, and they haven't been doing half bad! And, let's be honest, she wasn't doing that well. Balancing Quidditch, a career, and a boyfriend is hard work! But Ginny prevails -- largely because the boyfriend is in the same classes as she is, and isn't opposed to helping her out here and there. Now it's just time to make a few decisions...

Ginny is 5'4", the shortest member on the team -- including the team Seeker, who beats her by an inch and a half (she's a Chaser). Not a big girl by any stretch of the imagination. Brown eyes, bit-past-shoulder-length red hair, fading freckles from her childhood.

2:53 am - Game Poll.

Poll #297555 Aftermath Poll

How do you feel about exploring more partial humans and nonhuman entities in the game (like the Bagini)?

Diversity is the spice of life, and we've a magical world-setting after all.
Tread carefully. That sort of thing can be done well, and it can also be the seeds of really bad RP.
No. It leads to Anne Rice-esque vampires and God-Like Beings. Don't go there.
No opinion whatsoever.

What kinds of sentient creatures would you like to see added to the world setting?

Vampires. We already know that they're there, Rowling said.
Succubi/Incubi. Because sex demons.
More animal-based non-humans, along the lines of the Veela. Like the bagini.
Nothing that isn't STRICTLY canon-based. The bagini made me cringe.
I have another idea.

What's your other idea?
